Head of Bappeda Opens Ngobral Series #3

Pangkalpinang – The Head of Bappeda of Kepulauan Bangka Belitung Province, Fery Insani, opened Convers with Experts and Researchers – Ngobrol Bareng Pakar dan Peneliti (Ngobral) Series #3, which this time raised the theme "Economic Transformation: From Extractive Sector to Non-extractive Manufacturing and Services Industry: Business Entity's Perspective", on Monday, April 10, 2023, in a hybrid meeting. Ngobral is a routine agenda of the R&D Division at Bappeda.

In his opening speech, Fery Insani said that Kepulauan Bangka Belitung Province is blessed by God with tin mineral resources that are utilized and beneficial to many people. However, Fery Insani also warned of the limitations of this non-renewable mineral reserve.

"We cannot depend on this non-renewable mining sector to sustain; we need to take steps in preparing the economic transformation," said Fery Insani in front of Ngobral Series #3 participants who were also present offline in the Bappeda Vicon room.

Head of Risk Management Division, PT Timah Tbk, Hadi Sundoyo, said that in 2022, Indonesia became the world's second-largest tin metal producer, supplying 19% of the 379,681 metric tons of world tin production in that year. Hadi Sundoyo also said that business actors, in an effort to transform the economy from the extractive sector to the non-extractive manufacturing and service industries, expect the government to encourage economic diversification by growing new sectors other than the extractive sector. "This can be done by encouraging investment in non-extractive sectors such as the manufacturing and service industries," said Hadi Sundoyo.

The government can also facilitate the entry of foreign investment in the non-extractive sector by providing incentives, such as tax discounts or ease of licensing. "This foreign investment can help accelerate economic growth and the development of non-extractive industries," Hadi Sundoyo continued.

According to Hadi Sundoyo, the company benefits from the transformation from extractive to non-extractive sectors by reducing waste and environmental impacts, as well as promoting sustainable development. "With the transformation from extractive to non-extractive sectors, the company's competitiveness in the global market is increasing through the increase in the added value of its products," said Hadi Sundoyo.

Ngobral Series #3 was moderated by Sulista, the Junior Researcher of Bappeda of Kepulauan Bangka Belitung Province. The recording of this event can be accessed through Bappeda”s YouTube channel link above.
